Mountain Lake Playground
Tucked away in San Francisco's Richmond District, the Mountain Lake Park Playground seamlessly blends into its surroundings. It's nestled among ancient evergreen trees that gently slope down to the edge of Mountain Lake. The playground's recent revamp has given it a whole new lease on life, but it's like it's always been here. The play areas, tailored to different ages, are all linked by these cool winding paths that kind of just fit the lay of the land. And the coolest part? They've kept that iconic concrete slide intact, the one that zooms down the side of that small hill.
It's got an observation deck halfway up, where you can kick back and catch your breath while soaking in the views of the preschool area below and the stunning panorama of Mountain Lake. The new design even nods to the park's history – there are these 'sand dunes' that mimic the old landscapes and the walls have this funky pattern that's inspired by the reeds along the lake's edge. Plus, they've thrown in these big wooden play structures that feel like they were carved right from the surrounding forests. All of this came together with a whole lot of community spirit, driven by a bunch of local moms (“Friends of Mountain Lake Park Playground") and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. They've captured the essence of what makes this place special while giving families like yours a fantastic spot to make memories.
